I did not plan for this to happen

Setting goals is easy to do, following through to those goals is the real challenge.

I was discussing with myself on how I should create my profile icon. My head kept branching out from the website’s name.

“Reiya talks. Rei means bells and lovely, talk can be like a phone ringing.” The ideas and connections popped into my head and I had to mentally “swim” through the different designs I could create.

I settled on the capital “r” for my first name and talking became the ringing symbol. It wasn’t until I drew my final copy that I decided to include a star, which is the meaning of my surname.

I felt this design was for me and my website as an original but simple symbol. I enjoy simple and easy activities, recipes and lifestyle so this idea is perfect for me.

Deciding between a black-and-white concept and a colourful one was hard, because there is several factors to consider. Including lighting, colour combinations and if it would be part of the colour theme. My head was about to burst.

Colouring the picture was almost the hardest part, since my choices in tools were limited to my pencil case. I had to try different colours I liked and was available to me.

I took a break and when I came back, there was a little bit of effort for each example.

In the end I chose the farthest on the left as my design but I was scared that my outlining would be bad. So I didn’t include it.

I took a picture and uploaded on my profile picture, which is also my icon.

Then I started to think about my header image. This took me about half an hour to just decide that I would use an online photoshop site, called Photopea. The time I used was spent on thinking 50% on what format should be used, and 50% on irrelevant things.

Photopea gave me options to choose my header in different colours, fonts and layouts. Photopea’s tools were all available to use, so I began with a teal background with trees.

No text was here because I felt the text was not needed in my image. I wanted to focus on the visuals and their meaning instead of the words standing out.

I drew in mountains and a golden trail using the brush tool. The mountains and trail were added because they are commonly used to reference to a journey and a path. I am on a journey and my blog is talking about it. The path I’m taking is not straight and doesn’t have a end.

The cycle of planning, completing steps halfway, then scrapping the entire schedule repeated constantly. I couldn’t stay on task, but I was able to finish everything that was needed without truly sticking with my plans.

This is how I will live my simple life, going through my endless swirling path without proper planning.

How would you stop plagiarism from ruining our lives?

What is plagiarism and how do we stop it?

According to the MLA Style Center and many beliefs, plagiarism is a common but unwelcome act. It is when one creates the image that someone else’s work is their own without giving recognition. As one does plagiarism, it often can be seen as “cut and dry” (Mr. Turner), where its easily seen as another’s work. There are other instances when the person does the act by accident when stuck on wording and could only turn to plagiarism. However there are many methods to avoid which include giving credit for their words, work and ideas. When listening to lectures or even radios, pay attention to your source(s) and double check with others to be safe. While habits may be hard to quit, it would be better than having a permanent record of this and trust being hard to gain once again.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
